Cotswold Cottages Namesake

The names of our Cotswold cottages originate from King John, the king of England from 1199 to 1216. He built King John’s Palace at Langley.

King John was first recorded in the Cotswolds around 1204, using it as an annexe to another Palace in Woodstock.

The Gallery and Oak Tree Cottage are named after the ancient King John’s Oak, which was believed to be a gathering place for huntsmen in Wychwood Forest and is featured on many old maps. Nestled among fields, with only a few nearby cottages, this location allows you to truly experience the charm of rural life.

A Family Farm in the Cotswolds

At Langley Farm, we take pride in our farming heritage. Once a Royal Hunting Lodge for the Wychwood Forest, our farm is now a thriving stock farm. Visitors can expect to see sheep, cattle, and a variety of wildlife.

You might spot barn owls hunting along the hedgerows or see brown hares boxing in the spring. And, of course, there will occasionally be some distinctive rural smells!

Guests can arrange to visit our farm, but we are conveniently located near Adam Henson’s Cotswold Farm Park which has so much going on and the Cotswold Wildlife Park. Diddly Squat Farm is just across the valley and we are local enough to The Farmers Dog pub to be a regular supplier of produce to the shop and restaurant.
